What is Geunmyo (Rooting Strength)?
Geunmyo literally means 'root and sprout' and measures how well a stem is grounded. A Heavenly Stem has strong rooting when its element appears in the hidden stems (Jijanggan) of the branch below it. For example, Gap (Yang Wood) sitting above In (Tiger, which contains Gap in its Jijanggan) has perfect rooting — the root directly supports the sprout. Rooting through matching element (not identical stem) is weaker but still supportive. Stems without any rooting are 'floating' and vulnerable to clashes or combinations pulling them away.
