Paksha (Lunar Fortnight)

Paksha divides the lunar month into two fortnights — Shukla (waxing/bright) and Krishna (waning/dark) — affecting the Moon's strength and auspiciousness.

What is Paksha (Lunar Fortnight)?

Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight) runs from New Moon to Full Moon, while Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) runs from Full Moon to New Moon. The Moon is considered naturally stronger during Shukla Paksha, gaining Paksha Bala (fortnight strength) in Shadbala calculations. Birth during Shukla Paksha is generally considered more auspicious, particularly near the Full Moon. The Tithi (lunar day) within each Paksha further refines timing. The 8th Tithi (Ashtami) and 14th Tithi (Chaturdashi) of both Pakshas are considered challenging.

How TriAstra Uses Paksha (Lunar Fortnight)

TriAstra calculates Paksha Bala as part of Kala Bala in the Shadbala strength assessment, giving the Moon extra points during Shukla Paksha.

What Paksha (Lunar Fortnight) Means for You

If born during the waxing Moon, your emotional nature tends to be more outwardly expressive and optimistic. Waning Moon births develop deeper introspection.
